Get Great at Doing This in 2019

Each morning I do a “Take 5” practice. Sometimes I do a little longer meditation, but if nothing else, I at least do a “Take 5.” “Take 5” is a short, less than 5-minute, guided meditation focused on breathing.

Part 4: EXERCISE – The “Telling Month” of October

Welcome to the final part of my 4-part series, The “Telling Month” of October. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing one important (and totally doable) suggestion per week, around each health habit you’ll want to stay on top of this month (Sleep, Food, Mood, and Exercise). The intention is to incorporate these strategies into your life now, so that you can carry them into the holidays. When we’re with our favorite friends and family, it puts us in a better mood, which will help us make better food choices, get a good night’s sleep, and find more will to exercise.

When it comes to improving your mood, consider this strategy: Sprinkle your calendar with social activities. When we’re with our favorite friends and family, it puts us in a better mood, which will help us make better food choices, get a good night’s sleep, and find more will to exercise.

7 Lessons Midlife Women Can Take From Olympians

Did you enjoy the Olympics? I sure did – I find them motivating, especially because I always seem to find so many lessons in their journey of an Olympian that apply to women in midlife as well – women who are in pursuit of their best physical, mental, and emotional self.

Fall is NOT the Season to Fall Off the Wagon

/
In all seriousness, imagine if you took the next few months not to coast and let yourself go; rather you saw it as preparation for a successful start of 2018? I say this every year and this year is no different – the success of 2018 doesn’t start January 1st, 2018. It starts now, in the fall.

Time For a U-Turn: How to Use Labor Day to Get Back on Track

/
Although we officially still have almost a whole month of summer left (fall season begins 9/21), the day after Labor Day can often feel like the end of summer, especially for those who are teachers, counselors, and others in academic careers. If you have kids in college, they might be headed back to school as well.

The Biggest Difference Between a “Cheat” and a “Splurge” Meal

/
Is there a difference between a “cheat” and a “splurge” meal? Yes, and that difference is BIG. In fact, this might be one of the most important articles I’ve written, because knowing the difference between the two and changing how you view these so-called “cheat” and “splurge” meals/foods, can be the difference between living a healthy, enjoyable life and taking yourself through a viscous cycle of yo-yo “dieting” year after year.

Do’s & Don’ts When Encountering an Obstacle

Today I’m sharing with you five different approaches that are available to you when you encounter an obstacle. These approaches are based on a little field trip I took my clients on back in the day when I was a personal trainer.

The Type of Motivation Needed For Healthy Changes That Last

If you want to be healthy for the rest of your life, you MUST be motivated by this.

When It Gets Hard and You Want to Quit

We’ve all been there, especially if it’s a Sunday… We’re at the grocery store with our shopping cart full and ready to head to the checkout line. As I make my way to the front of the store, I scan the length of the lines, “What checkout lane should I chose?” The one with the shortest line, of course. I get in the shortest line and wait… and wait……… and wait… Oh! But that line next to you? It’s moving rather quickly now. Your line is taking too long and you think, “I’d be foolish to stay in this line if that line over there is moving more quickly.”
