How Spiritual Yoga Can Transform Your Life

This past Wednesday, on my radio show Phenomenal 50’s on the Amazing Women of Power Radio Network, I interviewed my midlife friend Jan Tucker, who recently launched her online magazine called PerfectInnerPeace.com, which introduces people to spiritual yoga concepts as opposed to physical ones. Jan says that these concepts can “improve your life in wonderful ways.”

I wanted to share a few highlights from our interview, and if this appeals to you, make sure you check out Jan’s site PerfectInnerPeace.com, where you’ll find many TRANSFORMATIONAL articles, including one from yours truly!

You completely transformed your life through yoga—can you tell us a little about that?

I formally set out on the yoga path 15 years ago. At that time, for many years my life hadn’t been going very well—I felt like I was missing out on everything life has to offer. I was scared, lonely and totally disillusioned about why I couldn’t be happy. I was in deep despair because I had done everything I was taught to do in order to have a good life, but nothing was working out. There were two major areas of my life that I cared about—my career and my love life—and both of them were turning into disasters.

Did you get any help when you did that?

Yes! That’s when it all started. Just a few weeks later I met a yogi at a winter solstice ceremony that a friend had invited me to. He offered to teach me yoga and meditation that day, and I did that every week for a few months. About a year later, he introduced me to my first guru, Shankaracharya. After a few years of studying with “Shank,” I moved into his ashram, which is like a monastery. I lived there for almost a year. When I left, I was truly a different person. I was confident about my life and I was so much more connected with my inner guidance—my intuition—that I was able to find a better career path, and a few years later I met my husband and our life has been better than I ever could have imagined ever since.

What is one of the greatest changes you can point to because of your yoga training?

As you progress on the yoga path, you become more and more connected to your inner self and to the knowledge that surrounds us. In other words, your intuition gets sharper and sharper. The advantage of this is that you get a lot smarter about decisions you make every day, and you begin to make the best choices for yourself in every situation.

Jan, do you have to be a yoga enthusiast to benefit from your magazine?

No, you don’t even have to be interested in yoga to benefit! The concepts apply to everyone—they have nothing to do with yoga poses—they are concepts that teach people how to live their lives from a place of inner peace, balance and harmony. We’ve turned yoga into more of a physical exercise in the U.S., and that’s all we really know. We’re missing out on the main benefits of the yoga practice because of that. Spiritual yoga can help people change their lives from despair to contentment and even happiness.

What will people find when they visit PerfectInnerPeace.com?

They’ll find great articles to help them understand how to live a happier, more fulfilling life. For starters, they can download a free book about how to de-stress their lives using yoga concepts. And there is also a month-long journey where they can spend 5 minutes a day getting a feel for what it’s like to benefit from spiritual yoga concepts. It’s a great introduction to yoga that will help them start to make lasting improvements in their lives.

Wishing you joyful health in your 50’s,
Kim

I completely agree with the adage: “Yoga adds years to your life and life to your years” which is what I hear Jan is saying. Thanks for sharing a new resource!
