Delicious Ambiguity

“I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity.”

-Gilda Radner

I was watching a show on National Geographic the other day called “Clever Monkeys”. It showcased the adventures of discovery and learning that young monkeys experience when they’re little. You see them exploring their habitat, wanting to touch and examine everything. The world is so new and exciting.

When I was watching the little monkeys on TV, I couldn’t help but think of you. I often share that I believe women in midlife have earned three gifts – wisdom, experience, and maturity. While it’s important to look back at what you’ve learned and use that wisdom and experience to help guide you toward an even better second half, I also believe that it’s just as important to stay curious, just like those little monkeys.

Because you’re a woman who wants to deepen your relationship with yourself, it’s vital that you commit to life-long learning because it is the key to growth, clarity, opportunity, and all the other rich and fulfilling rewards that flow as a result. A commitment to life-long learning requires you to stay curious about the world around you and the world inside you.

Your eyes are wide open.

Your ears are listening to not just what you hear around you, but what you hear inside you.

Your mind is eager to acquire knowledge about yourself and others.

Your heart is open to self-discovery.

Your legs are ready to take you on adventures right in your own backyard or travel across the world.

Your hands are excited to touch, feel, hold, and even get a little dirty.

The second half can be the best time of your life, if you allow it to be. Remember, you have wisdom, experience, and maturity on your side, yet there is still so much more to discover. There’s one thing for certain – you can’t plan everything out perfectly – you have to take each moment and savor it.

So I encourage you, little monkey…

Be open to not knowing the answer.

Be open to change.

Be open to what you might discover as you live curiously.

Be open to delicious ambiguity.

Wishing you joyful health in your 50’s,
Kim
